A philological study on poisoning and side effects of Myristicae Semen(肉豆구)

Abstract

|
Myristicae Semen is in use in the Korean medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Myristicae Semen for warming the middle-jiao(溫中), stopping diarrhea(止瀉), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, side effects, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Myristicae Semen. The results were summarized as follows： 1. The main ingredients of poisoning are myristicin, safrol, elemicin, etc. The ingredients of poisoning from Myristicae Semen mainly can cause hallucination, nausea, dizziness, etc. 2. The representative methods of poisoning treatment in the western medicine are promotion of washing out the stomach, vomiting, supplies of grape sugar and symptomatic treatment, etc. 3. If we use Myristicae Semen after removing oil by processing, the toxicity may be decreased. 4. In order to prevent against poisoning of Myristicae Semen, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
